Playroom

There is so much of our house that I haven’t shared here. Today I’m going to share our playroom because if you remember, we are getting ready to move a lot of the playroom down to the basement. I should be able to share the basement next week, but for now, here is our current playroom. I do love this room. We just have too many big toys that won’t work in here at this point, so we would like to keep some toys up here but move a lot of them to the basement which will be dedicated completely to kids!

This room would look much more put together with the lid on the ottoman, but unfortunately our kids left it on the floor and the dog peed on it…had to go in the trash :/ I know chevron is probably “out” now, but I still love it!

I love so much about this room. I love the windows, the fireplace (its a double sided fire place), and I love that we have two living spaces right next to each other.

You can see the great room on the other side of the wall. Ignore the messy mantle. It looks better in the other picture.

Now HERE is why we want to move most of the kids stuff to the basement:

Their messes tend to escape the playroom. Annley is so desperate for a desk, she has turned this baby bunkbed into a desk. We have too many big toys now (some have been camping out in our spare unused nursery).

I am tired of messes on this level of the house. The kids are good at picking up if you tell them exactly what their job is and monitor the whole thing. Tonight bed time was necessary before that happened, so its still a mess. I will be happy when its in the basement and I can just close he door.

I love that we were able to make this room cute even though it was full of toys. Here are some of our favorite accessories for hiding toys (when we actually put them away 🙂 ):

  • Land of Nod storage baskets: Our stacking chevron baskets are no longer available, but they have tons of great options. These baskets are much higher quality than what you would find at Target. We have several of their baskets and also some from Target, and the Land of Nod baskets have held up MUCH better.
We have several of these in the kids rooms (as hampers) and also some smaller ones that were on their changing table as babies.
  • The chevron storage ottoman: We bought this on Joss and Main several years ago. Here is a link to something similar and for a great deal on overstock.

Do you have any tricks for keeping toys in check? We will definitely be editing toys as we move them to the basement. Somehow we end up with a bunch of little things that don’t seem to have a home. Every couple of months I like to go through the toys and donate a few things and throw away random things that don’t seem to belong anywhere. I’d love to see other people’s playrooms and hear your tricks for keeping things in order.

Future plans for this room:

  • hardwood floors
  • new tile around fire place
  • trim out windows
  • possible moldings above fireplace
