Some great progress is being made on the mudroom! In fact, there is a bunch of banging on the wall as I type. I should have a new view into the garage here in a bit. (Update: yep, can now see into the garage…operation get a clean garage follows the mudroom project)! The floor plan is mapped out on the floor, and we are both very happy with the final decision.
Now, I am trying to nail down the look for this room so that we can order lights and anything else we might need (baseboards, accessories, etc.). So, I spent a good portion of Saturday (and Sunday and Monday) trying to pick out lights. Its harder than I was hoping!! I’m really wanting to try the modern refined farmhouse look. Of course, I want it to go with the rest of our house, but a little farmhouse flair would be awesome. I’ve been really inspired by the lighting that Chip and Joanna choose on Fixer Upper (Who doesn’t love Chip and Joanna?!?!). Anyway, overall, Joanna’s taste and mine are pretty different (she loves the distressed look where it gives me physical anxiety). However, Joanna is super talented and I’m inspired by a lot of her other choices (the ones without chipped paint). Here are a few of the lights they’ve done that we love:
The goose neck lights are what originally got me thinking of the farmhouse look for the mudroom. Then I got excited because I have pinned a lot of modern farmhouses on pinterest because I think they are beautiful, but I just figured I could never have anything like it. BUT, maybe I can have a little taste of it in my house. A mudroom seems like the perfect place for a little farmhouse flair. Now, farmhouse can really be a lot of different things, so let me show you the style that really speaks to me:
Now, I think there are two directions we could go – modern funky farmhouse or modern refined farmhouse. So, here are some lighting options. I like all of them; however, I have already ruled a couple of them out due to price or other reasons. I would LOVE feedback as to which ones you like and why.
1 Currey and Co. from Build.com / 2 West Elm / 3 William Sonoma Home
4 Pottery Barn / 5 West Elm / 6 West Elm
7 Jeremiah by Craftmade from Lighting Direct / 8 School House Electric / 9 Leto from Overstock
Now, this all gets a lot more complicated because we’d like to have sconces/ swing arm lights/ gooseneck lights in the mudroom, as well. They could go over the desk, over the lockers (most complicated option), or over the bench. If you want to see the floor plan, click here. I’m starting to really lean toward putting them over the desk. It makes sense to have task lighting there, it would be the most visible from the rest of the house, and it would be easier than the locker/cubby option.
Here are some of these options paired with a sconce.
Sooooooo….I want opinions!! I finally have one way I am leaning, but this has been a process, to say the least. I have looked at hundreds of lights and then relooked at them. One problem is that my taste does not match my salary 🙂 I told Parker several times that I was never going to figure out what to choose and what to put where. So, that’s what I would like to hear from you. Which lights and light combos do you like? Feel free to combine things or suggest things I haven’t thought of. Also, where do you think we should put sconces? Above the desk, bench, or lockers? I’d love to hear from you…really!
I think we should go with the bottom light!
Too bad it went up in price almost $100 since this morning…uggghhhhhhh
I think we should buy the last one
Second option- the black fixtures are my favorite! With darker slate floors that I think you’re doing and white lockers, it will look sharp and classic! I also like the circular design for the center of the room rather than the pendant type. Playful yet clean lines and unique design!
Thanks for the help! Now I just have to figure out what fits into the budget 🙂
Hello?
Ok back up and running! ?
I’m thinking about these for Connor James and Miss Lillian’s bathroom…. Just need to check measurements. Inexpensive yet trendy and NOT GOLD….?

Love those! That would be cute for a kids bathroom!
Okay! EEEK! I see the dilemma! SO many AWESOME choices.
After those inspiration pictures, I’m stuck on the black. I’m usually a chrome girl, but that black gooseneck…..LOVE. Love all of the second fixtures you paired with that one too. LOVE edison bulbs and LOVE funky! xx
100% of feedback (most of it on my personal facebook page) has been to go with black! I think we might be getting closer to a decision. We are going to at least go check something out in person tonight. I really hope it works.
Great post! Thanks!
